My name is Michael Powers. Thanks for visiting my online portfolio! I am a 27 year old recent SCAD graduate and excited about finding a job in Design. Why Design? In childhood I became infatuated with automobiles. The sounds, speed, smells, shifting of gears and sensation of zipping through winding Tennessee roads was fascinating, and all of these factors were amplified by the fact that my family drove a VW beetle. I made a habit of taking apart toys to see how they worked, and was, as are many kids, a LEGO fanatic. The older I became, the more I grew to appreciate well made things. Throughout high school I loved to draw, especially cars. So when I began college auto design was something I dreamed about but did not feel ready for. I eventually landed in a Graphic Design program. It was artistic, yet had many promising professional possibilities. After completing my degree I had three options; A) go look for a job, B) continue my Graphic Design education, or C) take on the challenge of Industrial Design at SCAD. I was attracted to the program because it did not revolve around cars, and I liked the idea that I would be challenged with a gamut of design problems.Once in ID, I knew I was home. I have had opportunities to work on my own and in teams of two to seven. Projects have ranged from lamps to ocean liners, umbrellas to corporate expansion strategies. The attraction is the challenge of solving a problem with imaginative product possibilities. About the Image The reason the site is this color is because firstly, it is different. It is not white or black. Also it is soothing and memorable. Green makes people smarter and it is the color of my drafting table top. I Chose SEIZMIC instead of just Michael Powers Design because I think it speaks to what I want to accomplish, which is awesomely, earth-shattering Design. - michael imagination. possibility. reality. |
